Changelog
0.12.0
- Splat-size filter — inside splat edit, splats can be filtered by size on a range slider that shows the block’s size distribution. Restrict selection to a size range, or live-preview a deletion and accept it as one undoable step.
- Cut/crop volume fixes — per-viewport visibility now works for block-local volumes, including layout details; copied volumes get their own colour; the block bounding box restores when a volume is deleted; block-edit Cancel restores splats deleted during the session.
- Duplicate block definitions — “Duplicate definition…” on a Krill block’s context menu creates an independent copy with its own edits.
- Layouts — splats are no longer painted over the whole sheet.
- Faster block-edit entry — double-clicking a Krill block enters block edit directly.
- Loads in Rhino 9 BETA — a load-time compatibility failure was fixed. Rhino 9’s default Direct3D display is not supported yet; select OpenGL on the graphics page.
- Licence acceptance stored once per machine — accepting the licence now covers every Rhino configuration. A one-time re-acceptance appears after this update.
- Clearer messages — the scan cache is called “Krill cache” in all messages.
0.11.0
- Splat editing — individual splats can be deleted inside a block edit, non-destructively. Ring mode outlines every splat for precise aiming. Deletions undo, survive save and reopen, and can be restored at any time;
.plyexport can exclude them. - Splat snapping — the cursor snaps to splat centres whenever a command asks for a point (requires Point osnap;
KrillToggleSnaptoggles it). Clicking a splat selects its object. - Colour grading — hue, saturation, brightness and more, adjustable per placement, per block, or globally, with live preview.
- Sharper large scans — stray splats far from the scan body no longer reduce rendering precision for the whole scene.
- Faster — scenes trimmed by complex cut/crop volumes and sparse large scans (e.g. sky domes) render significantly faster; first-time import of large scans got quicker.
- Damaged scans are repaired at import — scans with hidden defects from the capture tool no longer lose detail; Krill fixes them automatically.
- Caches rebuild once — the scan cache format changed; each previously imported scan re-bakes one time on first use.
- Experimental: relightable splats — sunlight and shadows on splats: splats shadow themselves and exchange shadows with regular Rhino geometry, with per-object settings on the panel’s Shadow tab. Off by default;
KrillExperimentalunlocks it,KrillToggleRelightturns it on.
0.10.0
- Automatic level of detail — large scans build a detail pyramid on first import
- View-dependent color — scans with directional color shift shading as the view orbits. On by default;
KrillToggleSHtoggles it. Included in.plyexport. - Faster import
- Stability fixes
- Caches rebuild once — the scan cache format changed; each previously imported scan re-bakes one time on first use.
Good to know
Windows only. Not macOS or Linux.
AMD and NVIDIA tested. Intel graphics not tested.
Very large scans placed many times can exhaust 8 GB graphics memory.
Krill is developed by Verkare AB. Closed beta for invited testers; see the in-app licence for terms.
